In this age of social networking and new media, where goods, services and information are obtained with just a click of the mouse, writing for a web audience has become more than just an avenue for expression – it has gradually advanced into the one of the most potent, reliable and easily accessible sources of information available today.
What was earlier perceived as a mere “journal” on the internet or an avenue for teenage angst, Blogging (or Web Logging) has evolved into a vital tool in shaping the consciousness of society.
A recent study conducted by popular internet search engine Yahoo! and market research firm Nielsen on the internet habits of Filipinos showed that 42 percent of an estimated 20 million internet users rely primarily on blogs for information, while 32 percent of the respondents said they have worked on blogs and social networking sites themselves.
Joining the efforts in introducing the wonders of blogging to the Filipino everyman, Vibal Foundation, Inc. and its media website, The Philippine Online Chronicles sponsor this year’s Iblog: The 6th Philippine Blogging Summit to be held at the Malcolm Theater, University of the Philippines, Diliman Quezon City on April 16 and 17, 8:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Iblog is an annual conference of Pinoy bloggers which was initiated in 2005. Unlike the previous bloggers convention, Iblog6 will run for two days – the first day will tackle the lucrative aspect of blogging and how it could help businessmen promote their products and services on the web. It will feature lectures from renowned bloggers/entrepreneurs such as Janette Toral, Abe Olandes, Francis Gary Viray and many more.
On day two, expert bloggers such as Ms. Noemi Lardizabal-Dado, Marck Ronald Rimorin and Juned Sunido will share their experiences and useful tips to aspiring bloggers.
Whether you are a businessman, an internet junkie or just a typical netizen wanting to learn a thing or two about blogging, then Iblog6 is the perfect opportunity to be a part of a vast, growing community called the “blogosphere.”
Admission is free. Free meals await the first 250 early registrants (those who will come on or before 9:00 a.m.)
See you there!
