And the center of the empire is … I’m sorry but I’m not at liberty to reveal the exact location. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Let’s just say that the center of the Ayala empire is located in one of the prominent buildings in the country’s financial district. If you really want to know where it is, just find time to search a few hundred buildings in the area. He he he!
Too crowded in Boracay? Getting tired of Puerto Galera? Or just can’t think of any place to spend a long weekend after a stressful week or months from work? Then might as well try something new and jump out of that bandwagon. Pack your things, recharge yourself with lots of energy, shift your gear and head to North for a one of a kind adventure.
Just a precaution though, if you are someone who doesn’t like long trips, as in long, because the whole trip to the Northern part of the country would take a minimum of 7-12 hours by Bus, then this escapade is not for you. Nevertheless, you’ll definitely miss half of your life if you won’t explore the North so I suggest you still go for it, I promise you won’t regret it.
So what are you waiting for? Fasten your seatbelt, sit back, relax, roll down the window, grab the camera and gear yourself for an exploration you’ll never forget.

Just in time before the summer heat ends, and before the rainy season gets ahead of us, the FILNET staff went out-of-town. Destination: Mabini, a town at the Southern tip of Batangas.
It was June 1st when we left for this much-awaited outing. Travelling in three cars, we left at about 1:00 in the afternoon. After three hours of travel (including merienda stop-over) we arrived at Eagle Point Resort in Mabini, Batangas.
We were greeted by the resort staff with garlands of puka shells and refreshing drinks—the best way to welcome visitors after long hours of travel. That set the mood of what would be an adventurous day ahead. We were led to our rooms for us to settle down and rest for a while. We occupied seven native cabanas and two cottages overlooking the sea.
I really didn’t know much about Miag-ao except that I often heard my colleagues talk about its historical importance. So, when the opportunity came, I took the time to check out the place.
I visited Iloilo City when I was in college but I didn’t get the chance to see Miag-ao. On a recent trip to our branch office here, I added as part of my itinerary this centuries-old church. Though some of my officemates decided to cancel our Miag-ao trip because of the intense summer heat, I pushed through with my plan together with six others.

It takes 20 minutes from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Centrally located, it is within walking distance from the Club Intramuros Golf Course, airline and travel offices, shops, galleries and entertainment spots. Also, the historical Intramuros is within reach for those who wants to see the grandeur of the Old Manila.
This historical incident has loomed so large in the Spanish imagination that countless books, songs, and even a popular historical film to the point that Spaniards make jokes about it. And Ezequiel keeps the flame of Baler burning bright by bringing together all the relatives of the survivors of the Last Stand in the Philippines. Funded entirely on his own and sustained only by his burning initiative, he found all the families in different parts of Spain. Every year he organizes a reunion of all the families with a historical connection to the Philippines. On a very hot spring day this year my friends Carlos, Jaime and Marius took a daytrip to Molina de Aragón, a delightful small town in the province of Guadalajara. An English student of Jaime’s had been nagging us about visiting the town which he claimed had a direct relation to the history of the Philippines.
When we got to the town we discovered that everyone seemed to know where the Palacio del Virrey de Manila is. Yes, they said, go to the corner of Calle Quiñones and you will see a stone facade with the heraldic insignia of the Viceroy. When we arrived we discovered a 3-storey stone palace with an imposing principal entrace surmounted by a seal decorated with 2 putti holding aloft a royal crown, and with decorations of armaments, musical instruments, flags, castles and a tree.
