One of the books stacked in the Filipiniana.net library is the book written by Alfred McCoy entitled Closer than Brothers: Manhood at the Philippine Military Academy and being an avid reader of all things regarding military history, I decided that this book would be on top of my reading list this previous month of May.
I really didn’t know much about Miag-ao except that I often heard my colleagues talk about its historical importance. So, when the opportunity came, I took the time to check out the place.
I visited Iloilo City when I was in college but I didn’t get the chance to see Miag-ao. On a recent trip to our branch office here, I added as part of my itinerary this centuries-old church. Though some of my officemates decided to cancel our Miag-ao trip because of the intense summer heat, I pushed through with my plan together with six others.
I was browsing the headlines of inquirer.net last week when a headline about an asteroid got my attention. An asteroid, also called minor planets or planetoids, is a type or class of those heavenly bodies floating around in space. According to wikipedia, the term asteroid is generally used to indicate a diverse group of small celestial bodies that drift in the solar system in orbit around the Sun.

PAARL (Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians) recently held its National Summer Conference from April 25 to 27, 2007 at Covelandia Resort Labrador, Pangasinan. 126 librarians, academicians, and library science graduates attended the three day seminar with the theme “Emerging Trends in Library and Information Services.” In behalf of Filipiniana.net, I have two important aims in attending this summer conference. First of all, I was going to present the Filipiniana.net Digital Library and Portal to the participants and librarians attending the conference. Second, the Filipiniana.net team wanted to know what are some of the technological advances and trends that are now occurring in the fields of library science and how these trends and advances can further help the website.
