A fax was received by Filipiniana.net inviting Sir Gus Vibal to the opening of the Película Spanish Film Festival that will be held on October 1, 2007 at the Greenbelt 3 Cinema 2. Instituto Cervantes and its sponsors would inaugurate the Spanish Film Festival by screening a silent film entitled “Universo Chomón” with piano music accompanied by Jordi Sabatés. Since Sir Gus is in Italy, Sir Alfred, managing editor of Filnet, invited me to come to the film screening which I gladly agreed.
We arrived at the venue around 1845, milled around, talked with people we know, and at exactly 1900, we were told that the screening would start so we lined up and entered the cinema. After a short welcome speech by D. José “Pepe” Rodríguez, director of Instituto Cervantes, the silent film entitled “Universo Chomón” started. The film was a selection of silent films made by Segundo de Chomón, a famous Spanish film pioneer/director.
